August 2025 - The latest synthetic soil to be released is a silty soil standard (B2235), offering a standard with values that complement the existing range. The table below summarizes the synthetic soils range so far.

The synthetic process provides multiple benefits to customers, including ingredient composition tailored to the needs of the scientific community.  Creating synthetic soils leads to improved consistency across consecutive batches, compared to collected soils. Synthetic soils are also not subject to the same export/import legislation and control as irradiated natural soil, which simplifies restrictions for hassle-free worldwide shipping.

July 2025 - Elemental Microanalysis is delighted to announce our new organic CS Catalogue, featuring a greatly expanded range of products. Analysers that are featured include:
•    ELTRA® ELEMENTRAC CS-r/CHS-r
•    ELTRA® C(H)S-580A/Helios
•    ELTRA® C(H)S-580
•    LECO® SC832 Series

Containing over 300 products for organic CS elemental analysis, this 20-page catalogue covers all your consumables needs and more, from reagents, standards, crucibles and boats, through to furnace tubes and scrubbing tubes.

This catalogue will be a valuable resource for analysts determining the sulfur and carbon content in a wide variety of organic materials such as coal, coke and fuel oils, biomass materials, soil and ore, fertiliser, feeds and plant tissue, rubber and polymers.

April 2025Elemental Microanalysis is pleased to announce a new product from our R&D department — a high organic content synthetic sediment IRMS standard that is certified for TOC as well as TC, N and S, with the certified values as shown in the table above. The new standard, B2251, should be useful to soil scientists both as a process QC standard for carbonate removal procedures, and as a day-today isotopic reference.

Elemental’s R&D department intends to add to this new range of synthetic soil IRMS/TOC standards, to better constrain the effectiveness of carbonate removal approaches and to help customers find a closer match to the matrix they are working with.

Synthetic soils and sediments have several advantages over collected soils, including improved consistency across consecutive batches, and simplified import restrictions for hassle-free worldwide shipping, as they are not subject to the same export legislation and control as irradiated natural soil.

Elemental Microanalysis also offers a comprehensive range of synthetic soil standards certified for carbon, nitrogen and sulfur, to suit a wide range of needs in soil analysis.

IRMS Water Standards

Jan. 2025 - Elemental Microanalysis is pleased to announce the release of a new suite of water standards for stable isotope analysis, developed by our in-house R&D team.

Created using a selection of enriched and depleted waters, as well as natural waters from around the globe, this new product range includes five waters that are designed to mimic the variation in natural isotopic values found on Earth, plus three enriched waters.

These standards can be used as cost-effective working references and quality control standards for anyone analysing hydrogen and oxygen isotopes in aqueous samples for a wide range of research fields such as palaeoclimatology, hydrology, oceanography, and geochemistry. The three enriched waters are useful in applications such as biomedical research, e.g. measuring metabolic rates and total energy expenditure.

Nov. 2024 - Elemental Microanalysis has added to its new range of synthetic soils, made from pure mineral and chemical ingredients, blended to exactly match the elemental make-up of natural soils. The synthetic process provides multiple benefits to customers, including ingredient composition tailored to the needs of the scientific community.

The newly introduced soil standards are a chalky soil standard (B2238), and a clay soil standard (B2236). Click the PDF below for a summary of the synthetic soils range so far. Additional synthetic soil standards (sandy, peaty, silty) are under development at Elemental to better mimic the range of natural soils previously collected, processed, and produced.

Creating synthetic soils leads to improved consistency across consecutive batches, compared to collected soils. Synthetic soils are also not subject to the same export legislation and control as irradiated natural soil, which simplifies import restrictions for hassle-free worldwide shipping.

July 2024 - Elemental Microanalysis has further increased it’s range of products for Elementar’s® inductar CS cube, inductar EL cube, inductar ONH cube, and trace SN cube. The first new addition, activated carbon (B1657) is intended for use as a charcoal filter in the trace SN cube, to remove SO2 and NO from the ambient air intake. Two further new products, an oxidation tube (C3079) and a filter tube packed with silver wool (X2508), are both compatible with the inductar series of analysers.

To view our full product ranges for any of these analysers, use the OEM search on our website, and select your analyser. Our sales team can also provide analyser-specific product sheets as PDFs, showing our complete range of compatible products, for any of the analysers shown on our website.

March 2024 - Elemental Microanalysis is pleased to announce a new range of synthetic soil standards.
•    B2237 is a loamy soil standard
•    B2230 is a high organic content soil standard
•    B2233 is a medium organic content soil standard

Elemental’s new range of synthetic soils are made from pure mineral and chemical ingredients and are blended to exactly match the elemental make-up of natural soils.

Benefits of synthetic soil standards:
•    Not subject to the same export legislation and control, meaning they can be shipped worldwide.
•    The make-up of the ingredients can be specifically tailored to match the needs of the scientific community while producing a full range of organic contents.
•    Improved consistency across consecutive batches, compared to collected soils.

Traditionally, soil standards provided by Elemental Microanalysis originated from UK soil. The natural soils were collected around the United Kingdom by Elemental’s laboratory team from different locations to deliver a range of soil types:  e.g. peaty, sandy, chalky, etc. Processing the soils involved laboriously removing anything that was not soil (all the stones, twigs, worms, etc.); drying, milling, and homogenising the batch.  Finally, the soil would be sent away for irradiation to preserve and sterilise the product. Many countries place import restrictions on soils and plant material, so exporting Elemental’s original soil standards could be a lengthy and expensive undertaking.

Nov. 2023 - IRMS Standards

Elemental's R&D development expert in isotopic ratio mass spectrometry, David Castle, and his team, have brought five new caffeine, glucose and gelatin IRMS standards to market, expanding our isotope reference material range to a total of 26 products. Exact batch values can be found on our reference material spreadsheet alongside all our existing reference materials.

The IRMS product range from Elemental Microanalysis has recently expanded to provide compatible products for analysers such as the isoEArth+ from Sercon; full product details are in our newly published Micro & IRMS catalogue. Contact us to request a copy.

Customer request has instigated the release of  D4603-1000, a 1000 unit pack size of cylindrical graphite crucibles compatible with LECO® RH404, LECO® RHEN602.

Combustion tube C4702 (3 200 607 909 equivalent) is Elemental’s first compatible product for the Horiba® EMIA Expert / EMIA Pro Inorganic analyser series.

Sept. 2023 - Elemental Microanalysis has developed a new drying agent, Drysorber (B1327).

Elemental's in-house R&D team developed Drysorber when Sicapent® became unavailable, hence it is suitable for use in all Elementar® analysers where Sicapent® was previously recommended, in instrument modes for C, H, N, and O detection.

Our R&D team developed Drysorber to be easy to use – from tube fill to moisture indication. Supplied in a 230 g bottle, this granular, free-flowing product ensures easy filling of drying tubes.

Drysorber contains an indicator which will undergo a change from pale blue to pink as the larger spheres absorb water – the images here show the colour changes to expect. The larger spheres of drying agent will dissolve as they are spent. The indicator offers easy recognition of when the drying agent needs replacing, as well as confirmation that any opened, stored product is still viable for use.

Drysorber can be used in any application and instrument where EAS WETSORBER (100007805) from Elementar® is specified for use (see table), as well as other appropriate applications.
